Employer: North Carolina Biotechnology Center
Occupation/title: Research Librarian
Birthplace: Chicago, IL
Birthday: January 21
Pets/children: just kids . Jack is 9 and Lucy is 6
Most relaxing activity: reading
Last good movie/concert/event I saw: I saw three awesome concerts at the Museum of Art in the summer of 2005: Tift Merritt, Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams.
Major accomplishment: Balancing work and family life. I know everyone does it, but it feels like a major accomplishment at the end of the day!
Favorite food group: my downfall is potatoes . baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, french fries, even tater tots!
If I won the lottery, I would: pay off debts, do some long-anticipated work on our house, make some smart donations and invest the rest.
Favorite website: Just for fun, I regularly check out photo blogs such as The Sartorialist (thesartorialist.blogspot.com) and Go Fug Yourself (gofugyourself.typepad.com).
Last good book I read: I'm not good at picking just one . I just finished "Patty Jane's House of Curl" by Lorna Landvik and "Back When We Were Grownups" by Anne Tyler - very different books but both good. I'm about ½ way through "The Brief History of the Dead" by Kevin Brockmeier and I'm really enjoying it. One of my recent favorites is "With" by Donald Harington.
Most influenced by: Besides my parents and a few great teachers, my husband, Bill, is the smartest, most dedicated and most ethical person I know.
If I weren't a librarian, I'd be: a database administrator
What I really like about my job is: The variety is great, but I really love doing research best.
My favorite SLA memory is: the news division's parties!
Positions I've held or work I've done for SLA: public relations chair of the news division, 1993-94; membership chair of NCSLA, 1995-97; professional development chair & board member of the news division, 1997-99; student & academic relations chair of NCSLA, 1998-1999; president-elect/president/past president of NCSLA, 2002-05; nominations committee chair of NCSLA, 2006
The one thing I really hate to do in the library is: having to say that I can't find the answer.
People would be surprised to know that I: enjoy reality tv shows (my guilty pleasures are Survivor, The Amazing Race, American Idol, etc.)
