Employer: The News & Observer

Occupation/title: Research manager

Birthplace: Wilmington NC

Birthday: November 1

Pets/children: Blended family of six children, two step-grandchildren, two cats, one dog and two granddogs.

Most relaxing activity: Reading and working in the yard and garden.

Last good movie/concert/event I saw: Good Night and Good Luck

Major accomplishment: Living to be empty nesters (We love it!)

Favorite food group: That's easy -- CHOCOLATE.

If I won the lottery, I would: Keep working but travel a lot more.

Favorite website: www.alltheweb.com

Last good book I read: God's Politics : Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It , by Jim Wallis

Most influenced by: Too many to list. I've been blessed with a lot of wonderful people in my life.

If I weren't a librarian, I'd be: Researcher of some kind -- or maybe a dog walker or barn lackey.

What I really like about my job is: The people I work with and the variety of the questions I get to research.

My favorite SLA memory is: The rock show in Toronto last year by the Executive Garage Band from the Globe and Mail. Celia Donnelly, research director at the Globe and Mail, plays bass and the other band members all work at the Globe and Mail. In my conference programming I billed it as the "Wild Librarians Wingding" and held it on Wednesday night, the close of conference. As the concert's reviewer wrote in News Library News, "I have been to a lot of concerts and conferences but this is the first time they have meshed so well together."

Positions I've held or work I've done for SLA: News Division's program planner for SLA 2005 Toronto conference. Currently I am Chair of the News Division.

The one thing I really hate to do in the library is: Catalog

People would be surprised to know that I: I first learned to ride by riding my grandfather's gardening mule bareback. (Talk about learning balance!)
