Employer: Dialog
Occupation/title: Senior Manager, Information Professional Development
Birthplace: Columbus, GA
Birthday: July 2, 1947
Pets/children: Dog--Hershey/ Sons--Joel, 37 and Ben, 29
Most relaxing activity: Reading
Last good movie/concert/event I saw: "A Very Long Engagement"- I rented it and watched it three times, but, be warned, there are subtitles.
Major accomplishment: Going back to school and getting my MSIS from Drexel 25 years after graduating from college.
Favorite food group: I'd like to say salads, but the truth is meat-especially steak au poivre.
If I won the lottery, I would: uh, probably pinch myself and then go on pretty much as I do now. Except I would travel more and I might buy a new house; oh, and a new car, and maybe invest for my retirement and .. Hmm, I think I don't like this question, so let's say I'd have to think about it some more.
Favorite website: Right now it's www.websudoku.com. I'm addicted.
Last good book I read: "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. I bought it because it was about a librarian-but only by happenstance rather than passion-and found the writing to be exceptional due to the change in the narration point of view. (A bit tricky to follow at first.)
Most influenced by: My husband-he has taught me the meaning of patience. Now if I could only put it into practice more often..
If I weren't a librarian, I'd be: a real librarian, rather than a person who markets to librarians.
The one thing I really hate to do in the library is: Since I don't get to spend enough time in a library, I can't think of anything I'd hate to do-greener grass, and all that I'm sure.
People would be surprised to know that I: love to decorate and can lay tile, paint anything, sew curtains and slipcovers, refinish furniture, put up moldings, install toilets and sinks, make lamps, and scrape cottage cheese ceilings to make them smooth.
What I really like about my job is: getting to work with librarians. I decided I wanted to be a librarian at 18 and at 43 I went back to school and got my degree. But I've never been a librarian, so working with them is the next best thing. I feel like I'm home.
My favorite SLA memory is: The great response from our members regarding the launch of the newsletter. Lots of people worked very hard to redesign the website and create a new way to communicate with the membership and you let us know that you really appreciated it.
Positions I've held or work I've done for SLA: Public Relations Chair, NCSLA; Communications Team Lead, NCSLA; Director, NCSLA; Professional Development Co-chair, LMD; SLA representative for the Marketing & Management Committee.
