Employer: US Environmental Protection Agency under contract with UNC-Chapel Hill
Occupation/title: Library Director
Birthplace: Millville, NJ
Birthday: January 25th
Pets/children: 4 cats - Adam, Tiger Lily, Jeeves and Dahlia (2 are mine > and 2 are my partner, Greg's - we have a Brady cat family where we are > all just trying to live together happily!)
Most relaxing activity: Running
Last good movie/concert/event I saw: Godfather trilogy, for real. I had never seen them before.
Major accomplishment: I've been really proud of my career so far, working with and learning from some of the finest people at area Universities, at Dialog and now at EPA
Favorite food group: I live for food, all kinds. I love flavor. Is spice a food group?
If I won the lottery, I would: Do everything I fear doing - the money would be my safety net.
Favorite website: I get my fill of the web with work pursuits, so I visit relatively few sites personally. CNN.com, Netflix
Last good book I read: The House of Spirits, Isabel Allende. A really great multi-generation spanning novel in line with Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Most influenced by: My Russian grandparents who have seen horrors like > the holocaust, moving to a new world of strangers, creating something > out of nothing and living as best they could in spite of it all.
If I weren't a librarian, I'd be: A cook, an artist - something very creative that would probably mean being poor again for a while. Note: this would have to be if I won the lottery.
What I really like about my job is: the sense of being involved in something larger than myself, something I can be proud of...and the library interns! I love being surrounded by their fresh and new ideas, their enthusiasm and energy.
My favorite SLA memory is: Too many, but they all center on reconnecting with old friends and colleagues.
Positions I've held or work I've done for SLA: Chair, Strategic Planning - worked to develop and administer the recent NC/SLA planning survey.
The one thing I really hate to do in the library is: I don't hate doing anything in the library - really. I get a real sense of satisfaction from staff management to shelving to everything in between. Maybe I would hate having to do the same thing all the time - although there are times when I'd love that, too...
People would be surprised to know that I: Have been face to face with tigers.
