Letter from the President,
November 2006

It's time to bid farewell to...

  • A mostly fun-filled (a little angst-ridden, too) 18 months as President of SLA's greatest Chapter, to official duties, to representing our great Chapter at international SLA meetings (even if they were in Tampa , New York , Houston , and Baltimore ).
  • The honor of working with the creative, dedicated leadership YOU all elected to guide the chapter through the maze of the Association year change.
  • The dedicated volunteer committee chairs and committee members who make the whole show work in our great Chapter.
  • The advisors who have gone before me and readily shared their insights and advice about leadership at both the local and the association levels of SLA, especially Erin Knight, Sperry Krueger, Rebecca Vargha, Barbara Semonche, and -- even more-- to Dav.
  • Sandra Chambers, Third-Year Director; to Betty Jo Hibbard, who served one year of her term as Director before relocating with Thomson Dialog to Philadelphia; to Cindy McCracken as our Communications team-lead, managing the electronic conveying of news and information that we all rely on; to Teresa Leonard as the Chapter's long-time Web-master, only her latest job in a distinguished history of service to NCSLA. It's also been my pleasure to work with chairs Mike Crumpton, Susan Forbes, Terry Hill, and David Sullivan.

Time to welcome the new order.

  • Debbie Balsamo as the new chapter President, Joanie Olivier as President-Elect, and Karin Shank as First-Year Director.
  • The leadership of soon-to-be-appointed committee chairs. It's time for YOU to let Debbie know that YOU are interested in volunteering. You'll learn first-hand the benefits of contributing to the energy and creative spirit of this chapter, and the range of opportunities may surprise you.
  • Jennifer Klimas, our new Communications guru, who needs YOU, to contribute articles, member news, IDEAS; Denise Jones, who will complete the remaining two years of Betty Jo Hibbard's term as Director.

And time to acknowledge continuity.

  • not only of YOU loyal members but also of our elected volunteer leadership. Bonnie Toenniessen graciously will serve again as treasurer. Diane Lamb and Tamika McCollough will conclude in style their terms as Secretary and Third-Year Director, respectively.

And I'm not going anywhere! In fact, I'm really looking forward to working as Past-Pres, help ing to enact some of the proposals that will come from the Membership Survey conducted and analyzed by April Errickson and Sandra Chambers, chairing the Awards Committee next year, then Nominating the year after. It's an easy let-down from the excitement of Pres. Thanks to each of you for giving me this grand opportunity - keep in touch!

Take care,
Eliza
