NCSLA President's Message
July 28, 2004

In June 2004, I officially became the President of NC SLA. I am honored and daunted by this duty. I have big shoes to fill! Sperry Krueger, now our Past-President, did a terrific job implementing new initiatives and moving our chapter forward. Sperry was and continues to be a wonderful mentor to me. To Sperry, I say: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I have been thinking of what I really want to accomplish as your President. I have two main goals. The first is to get more folks involved in the chapter. By this, I do not necessarily mean recruiting new members. That would be great, but what I would like to see is more of our current members getting involved. I can tell you from experience; the more involved you are the more you get out of this association. In addition, you will be bringing new ideas and talents to our chapter. This is always beneficial and most welcomed!

We do have two new members of our Chapter Advisory Board. Mike Crumpton is our new Diversity Chair, and LaTasha Martin has agreed to be our Charlotte Group Liaison. Kudos to Janine Gross for helping to get the Charlotte Group off the ground and serving as the liaison for the past several years. My second goal is improve communication within the chapter. Sperry laid the groundwork for this by forming the NC/SLA Communications Team. Betty Jo Hibberd has agreed to serve as Team Leader. The team members working with Betty Jo are: Teresa Leonard (web master), Toby Lyles (list owner), and Jessica Rubis (graphics specialist). We are still looking for another member — someone who is interested in "pushing" content to the site. This person will be on the lookout for articles and web sites that are of interest to our members. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please contact me.

Our chapter is filled with phenomenal people. I have greatly enjoyed working with and getting to know so many folks. For those of you, I have not yet met; I hope to meet you soon!
