PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Part 1 – Alignment Update with SLA President Gloria Zamora
Align in ’09. That has been the rallying cry from SLA President Gloria Zamora this year. But if you weren’t able to make it to the Leadership Summit in January or the Annual Conference in June, this might not mean a whole lot to you. And even if you were at one or both of those events, you probably feel like you were only teased with a bit of initial information. Now is the time to learn more. Gloria Zamora will be joining us - She’s coming back to Minnesota to talk expressly about the alignment and what it means for your future! Jill Strand, our Chapter Alignment Ambassador and Chair of the Public Relations Advisory Council, and Jim Tchobanoff, SLA Fellow and longtime association member, will also be on hand. There will be a simple presentation that will synthesize the Alignment research and make it easy to understand. Check out http://www.sla.org/alignment ahead of time or just join in the fun of the event and get a quick overview without having to dive in yourself. However you choose to do it, this information will be important for the association as it moves toward a name change vote by the end of the year, and ultimately is important for your future as a librarian/information professional, or whatever you call yourself.

Part 2
– Night of Honors

Honor the award winners of 2009, those who retired in the past year and toast the Centennial of SLA. From our two (count ‘em two out of five) Rising Stars to the four (are there any more?) retiring members, you won’t want to miss hearing about the achievements of our members. The winner of the MN Chapter 2009 Innovation in Action Award will also be announced. And you’ll have a chance to learn about awards that can further your professional development and are available to apply for in 2010.

Map of HGA Parking

Parking is available anywhere in the HGA lot that extends from the Washington Ave. entrance all the way to 3rd Street. There should be plenty of room because arrivals will start after work hours. Please note: The HGA lot does not extend north of the wooden barrier. Do not park there or you may be towed.

There is also metered parking on Washington and free parking on 3rd Street. There is a public ramp on 10th and Washington (a two-block walk to HGA).
