The Michigan Chapter of the Special Libraries Association recently celebrated its 75th Diamond Anniversary with a series of events held in Dearborn on May 13th that were attended by over 100 information professionals from public, academic, corporate, government, medical, and legal libraries throughout Michigan.
The Henry Ford Centennial Library co-hosted an afternoon reception and keynote address, “Survivor Library: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast” by Stephen Abram, a well-known author and speaker in the information community. His thought-provoking and humor-filled presentation centered on the challenges faced in meeting the information needs of upcoming younger generations.
At the evening banquet held at the Dearborn Inn, Cynthia Hill, President of the Special Libraries Association, commended members of the Michigan Chapter for the success they have had in blending new technologies with existing resources to effectively link the information user with the right information, at the right time.
Kathy Irwin, President of the Michigan Chapter SLA sums up the changing role of the information professional: “Our members face a wider array of career choices today than ever before. Some work outside of the traditional library setting as web masters, management information consultants and course developers. (But) what has not changed over the past 75 years is the contribution our members make in locating, critically analyzing and presenting information needed for key decision making. By doing so, we add value to the customers and organizations that we serve. We have much to be proud of as we celebrate our Diamond Anniversary.”
Please check out the slide-show highlighting the events of the evening.

Organizing an event like the 75th anniversary celebration requires the efforts of countless individuals who have volunteered their time and efforts to make it a success. However, without the support of our sponsors, the Anniversary Committee would not have been able to offer such an excellent program for such a reasonable cost. The Michigan Chapter relies on these partnerships to make events like this happen.
The Anniversary Committed would like to thank the following sponsors and partners who have generously pledged their support to the Michigan Chapter's 75th Anniversary Celebration.
