Help Wanted

(Volume 55, Issue 1/2, May 2007)

Volunteer and keep the chapter working for you.

What is in it for you?

  • Gain skills you may not get in your regular job: leadership, meeting, speaking, fundraising, and organizing skills.
  • Get training and mentoring from colleagues in SLA.
Learn new technologies and how they may work for you.
  • Meet, work, and network with a great group of professionals at the local level.
  • Find your next job.

There are always a few little jobs that do not require the time commitment of a leadership position:  hospitality at chapter programs; help fold, stamp, and mail program notices; write an article for the Chapter bulletin, The Cutting Edge; host a program at your worksite; or share a good idea for a program, speaker, or place to meet with the Program Chair.

Committees:

Chapter Nominations Committee seeks at least two additional members.  This is a good way to meet Chapter members.  It requires someone who can call or contact Chapter members to invite them to become volunteer leaders of the Chapter.  If you are interested, contact Linda Hutchinson.

Tech Day 2007 planning committee is in urgent need of one or more individuals to work on vendor relations (obtaining sponsors and exhibitors) for the Oct 4th SLA-CMD Technology Day at the Kossiakoff Center at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD.   Contact Susan Fingerman if you can help.

Tech Day Committee needs a Wiki minder for the Tech Day 2007 wiki.  This person should be familiar with wikis and be able to update and maintain the Tech Day wiki.  If you are interested, contact Susan Fingerman.

Chapter needs a Bulletin Web Publisher for The Cutting Edge, the Bulletin of the Maryland Chapter, SLA.  This person will create the layout of the bulletin and should know MS Publisher.  The duties include: creating a pdf copy from MS Publisher for the Chapter website and sending the final approved MS Word version of each article to the Chapter Webmaster.   If interested, contact Edna Paulson or Teresa Darr

Chapter needs a Vendor Relations Chair and members for a Vendor Relations Committee.  If you can contact vendors and tell them why they should support the SLA Maryland Chapter programs and events—this very important job is for you.  Have you wanted to get involved in fundraising for a non-profit organization?  This an excellent opportunity.
