Become a Chapter Leader in 2008
(Volume 55, Issue 1/2,May 2007)
Volunteer Leaders needed for 2008.
Give back to the Maryland Chapter of the Special Libraries Association.
If you are interested in a leadership position in the Chapter, contact Past President Linda Hutchinson. She can tell you about the 2008 positions needed for the Executive Board. She is looking for nominees for the officer positions to be filled in 2008: Treasurer (2008-2009), two Directors for a 2-year terms (2008-2009), and one Director for a 1-year term (2008).
- Nominations Committee: seeks 2 additional chapter members
- Current officer terms: Please see http://units.sla.org/chapter/cmd/Newsletter/oct06/706art1.htm to see the terms for the 2007 incoming officers.
- Directors: Please see Chapter Recommended Practices at http://units.sla.org/chapter/cmd/CMDPractices.pdf at p. 12. We are supposed to have 4 Directors for a total of 9 voting members comprising the Exec Board and a quorum of 5 voting members. Directors are supposed to serve 2 year terms, staggered so that only 2 directors are up for election any given year.
- Notes: The 2008 officer election list below reflects the need to have (a) 2 directors end terms at the close of 2008 [Andy plus the one year director] and (b) 2 directors serve to the end of 2009.
2008 Elections:
- President-Elect – have nominee for this position
- Treasurer
- Director (1 yr, 2008)
- Director (2 yrs, 2008-2009)
- Director (2 yrs, 2008-2009)
President-Elect serves as Program Chair and creates Chapter Programs as he/she learns the activities of the Executive Board and the requirements to meet for SLA: attend the Chapter Cabinet at the Winter Leadership Summit and Annual SLA conferences; learn the job of President; write for the Chapter newsletter, The Cutting Edge; and fulfill reporting requirements for SLA.
President-elect is a three year commitment to the Maryland Chapter SLA.
The Chapter Treasurer keeps the checkbook; writes checks to pay for programs and other expenses; deposits receipts from Chapter events; creates the financial reports required by SLA twice a year (in Quicken); and reports on the status of the Chapter Treasury at every Executive Board meeting.
Treasurer is a two-year commitment to the Chapter.
Director is a good position to learn the way SLA and your board work. If you have ever wanted a leadership position in your professional association, this is a good place to start. The work is not strenuous, but does require a time commitment to attend Executive Board meetings and programs. Some board meetings can now be attended via teleconference instead of in person. So if you have a long commute, you may be able to phone in to our Board meetings. A limited number of persons may teleconference to the Board meetings before we must pay a fee for teleconferencing.
Directors may serve either a one or two year commitment to the Chapter.
