Awards Committee Procedures

Kentucky Chapter/Special Libraries Association
  1. Look over current procedures and criteria to see if any modifications, eliminations or additions need to be made. This should be done prior to publication of the January newsletter.
  2. Notify membership of needed nominations via the newsletter and listserv. Contact webmaster to update related web pages.
  3. Stress to the Kentucky SLA group the importance of recognizing fellow librarians for their dedication and commitment to the profession.
  4. Collect nominations from Kentucky SLA chapter members (any committee member can collect).
  5. Review all nominees carefully and weed out those that do not meet the criteria. Make selection(s). The awards do not have to be given every year.
  6. Order plaques.
  7. Present the awards at the Kentucky SLA Spring Social Meeting.
  8. Reminders:
    - Budget: traditionally, the Awards Committee has needed a budget of $150/year ($60-65 per plaque)
    - Eligibility of Awards Committee members: members are not eligible but, if a member is nominated for an award, the nomination will be deferred until the following year.
