By Amy Saxton Anne Keiser spoke in the East West Center on October 27, 2003 about friend and explorer Sir Edmund Hillary and Hillary's Himalayan Trust. Anne Keiser's book, Sir Edmund Hillary & the People of Everest, uses her photographs and text by Cynthia Russ Ramsay to document Hillary's public education and health care projects for Nepal's Sherpa people. The talk was co-sponsored by HPC SLA, the Pacific and Asian Affairs Council, and several other community organizations. Two brief quotes from Anne's talk: Hillary: "I came here for the mountains, and stayed for the people." From the foreword: Prince Philip, an ardent conservationist
and for many years the President of WWF International, says "It would
be very difficult to exaggerate the value of Hillary's thoughtful and
sensitive contribution to Sherpa welfare and to the conservation of their
way of life in the spectacular Himalayan environment." |
