Sue Henzcel Visit

By Susan Johnson

Way back in June of this year, the chapter was lucky enough to host chapter member Sue Henczel, from Down Under, as a guest presenter for two events. On June 3rd, Sue gave an afternoon talk and slide show entitled: The Information Audit - Turning the Light Bulb On at Hamilton Library on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. Her presentation was well attended by information professionals from different institutions, and even some local management luminaries were noticed in the crowd! Sue offered convincing evidence of the usefulness of an information audit, and offered some excellent guidelines on how to go about it. The presentation generated quite a few questions and enthusiasm, and set the tone for the next evening, when Sue was the guest speaker at the chapter's annual meeting. At the meeting, which was held at the "W" Diamond Head Grill, Sue talked more informally about change and the information professional. As an Education Specialist with CAVAL Collaborative Solutions, Sue has conducted numerous workshops and held countless discussions with information professionals from all over, and she drew upon that experience to speak frankly with our group about the real challenges involved in the change process and our profession. Sue's more philosophical version of building business competencies as information professional gave those of us present much to ponder, and more than a few members are interested in holding a full-fledged workshop as a professional development event in the coming year. All in all, it was fabulous to find a gem such as Sue within our own membership, and get to spend some time with one of our far flung members.
