New and exciting opportunity for you if you are highly skilled in using and evaluating software products and can also train this organization’s employees to use these tools efficiently and effectively. The Information Specialist will be part of new unit of professionals supporting this major foundation by managing and facilitating access to information.  Must be service-oriented, responsive, analytically rigorous and creative to meet the challenges of this new position!

THE POSITION:   Manage the end user products, subscriptions and book buying process; cultivate vendor relationships.  Evaluate user needs by assessing effectiveness of products and services on a regular basis.  Develop the Research and Evaluation Unit’s website, updating information and adding new services on an ongoing basis.  Manage access and usability to internal information tools for end-users.  Consult, coach and train the firm’s employees in the area of information competence to enable them to use the available resources.  Manage the orientation to information services program for all new employees.  Provide reference assistance to foundation’s employees.  Conduct  research using electronic, print and other resources as appropriate.  Support the information needs of the foundation’s regional offices.

REQUIREMENTS:   Minimum of two years experience in a similar position.  BA/BS degree; advanced degree (MLIS) or equivalent work experience in an information service profession a plus. High level of proficiency in computer systems and the ability to learn new software quickly.  Strong analytical skills, including use of spreadsheet and database software.  Exceptional commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.   High level of competence searching electronic databases and evaluating sources.  Ability to convey essential information; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; strong interpersonal skills.  IT know-how (i.e., portals, federated search tools) a plus.  Experience managing training programs on end-user research tools a plus.    Able to multi-task, work independently and set priorities amid competing demands.
