RESPONSIBILITIES:
The University of Toronto Mississauga Library seeks a dynamic leader with a
strong background and expertise in commerce and finance to lead the development
of the Library’s new Finance Learning Centre (FLC). Reporting to the Chief
Librarian with a dotted line relationship to the Department of Management, the
primary collaborator on this Centre, the successful candidate will be
responsible for developing the program for the FLC, building relationships with
any and all relevant departments, promoting the curricular use of the Centre,
developing and participating in instructional activities in alignment with the
Library’s strategic instructional direction, integrating the Centre into
undergraduate and graduate curricula to enhance student learning and success,
liaison librarian responsibility for the Departments of Economics and
Management, and engaging in assessment activities. In so doing, the successful
candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, librarians, staff and the
broader community.
The incumbent is expected to
be a leader in developing the Finance Learning Centre, work collaboratively with
computing personnel and the Department of Management in support of hardware and
software resources and daily operation of the Centre, plan and implement new
directions for services in the FLC, develop instructional materials and
documentation, market the FLC services, and develop information and resources
for the UTM Library web site pertaining to the FLC.
The FLC is a new,
state-of-the art facility with 32 public computers in a classroom setting slated
for opening in the Fall 2008. The Centre will provide access to experiential
learning opportunities for students in finance, accounting, economics,
mathematics, psychology and related disciplines. The Centre’s activities will
be designed to complement and enhance the classroom experience for students at U
of T Mississauga using advanced computer hardware, sophisticated financial
analysis, simulation and portfolio management software, and live data feeds from
the global financial community. The FLC will provide opportunities for
innovative curriculum and software development, and will participate in and host
national and international business competitions in collaboration with the
Joseph L. Rotman Finance Research and Trading Lab (St. George campus), and will
also work with the broader community in developing programming.
The FLC is located in the
Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre, an award winning facility that opened
in the Fall 2006, that provides complementary learning and technological
resources in a warm and vibrant setting.
The University of Toronto

renowned for its collections strength and leadership in library and
technology-based services.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants
must be graduates of an ALA accredited library school with an MLIS/MISt degree
or acceptable equivalent. An undergraduate or graduate degree in Commerce
or Business Administration is preferred. A minimum of three years work
experience, in a business library or trading lab in an academic/research setting
is required, as is a basic knowledge of modern corporate finance and investment
theory and practice. The candidate will have the demonstrated ability to teach
in an individual, small group and/or classroom format, and will be well-versed
in integrating and/or embedding data and information literacy competencies into
the curriculum. Applicants must have strong leadership capabilities, including
the ability to develop the academic role of the Finance Learning Centre, making
it a leading centre in its field. Applicants must have a high degree of
computer literacy, including significant experience with Microsoft Office, in
particular, Microsoft Excel, and other software and web applications. The ideal
candidate will have significant experience using applied financial software
applications, including Reuters Station and the Bloomberg terminal. Also, the
candidate will demonstrate a commitment to staying abreast of information
technology; have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills (oral and
written); the ability to forge relationships with faculty, students, colleagues
and the wider community; a demonstrated commitment to service to undergraduates;
and the ability to work in a team environment.
SALARY:
Librarian III $70,300 minimum, per annum.
NOTE:
This position is a permanent status stream appointment.
