The successful candidates will join a global team of information professionals responsible for conducting comprehensive search and analysis of technical information in support of our research activities, patent application and prosecution cases and business development activities.

Primary responsibility will be providing search and analyses to support patentability, freedom to operate and validity analysis. Other responsibilities include supporting current awareness initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct patent search and analysis, resulting in the delivery of timely, value added search reports, based on in-house established protocols

  1. Create and maintain a strategic partnership with key stakeholders in NIBR
  2. Conduct search and analysis to support patent landscape activities for our NIBR colleagues
  3. Keeping self and others appraised with the 'state of the art' in patent & scientific searching.
  4. Participate in and lead projects to improve NIBR Search and Analysis team services and products

Minimum qualifications

BS degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related scientific field

  1. At least 3 years of relevant searching experience, including patent, pharmaceutical and biological sequence searching
  2. Experience using online databases (e.g. CAS Registry/CA Plus, Derwent Geneseq, Derwent World Patent Index), Internet resources, specialized information tools (e.g. STN express) and patent classification systems (e.g. PCT and US Class codes)
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in conducting comprehensive and focused patent searches (e.g. patentability, freedom to operate, legal status and patent expiry)
  4. Strong customer-service focus to build and sustain good working partnerships with key stakeholders
  5. Effective analytical, presentation and communication skills
  6. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team
  7. Strong organizational and time management skills
  8. Flexible with excellent attention to detail
