The Association of UK Media Librarians, AUKML, was formed in 1986 to create links between librarians and information workers in all areas of the media industry. Our members come from newspaper and magazine publishing, broadcasting organisations and academic institutions. Despite our name, we are happy to welcome overseas members.

We aim to improve the professional standing of information workers through exchanging knowledge and experience and by organising meetings, events and conferences to keep members up-to-date with emerging techniques in information management.

The City Information Group (CiG) was set up in October 1989, as the IIS Finance and Business Special Interest Group.
Its objectives are to stimulate the exchange of knowledge, experience and ideas between specialists in the financial and business information sector, and to represent members' interests on important issues.
The Committee organises monthly evening meetings on topical subjects, usually with a panel of speakers, and regular social events. These normally include a Summer party, a dinner following the Annual General Meeting, and a prestigious Christmas event which coincides each year with the major Online Information exhibition at Olympia (at which CiG has a stand).

  Information Resources Management (IRM)

IRM is a coherent framework for managing information resources strategically alongside human, financial and material resources.
The mission of the IRM Network is to explore and define that framework, to identify the skills required, and to discover and develop appropriate tools to support IRM.
Since information pervades all domains of an organisation, we invite all interested parties - information practitioners, knowledge workers, managers and technologists alike - to explore our site and to join us on our voyage of discovery.

The Need for Competitive Intelligence

From fierce new competitors to changing technologies, the competitive environment is never the same from day to day. In the cutthroat global marketplace, companies need more than one tool to succeed. And while strategy and planning can tell you which direction to head and where your journey should end, only competitive intelligence (CI) can show you the storms on the horizon and allow you to benefit from the strongest winds.
We all know that information is not enough anymore. Managers need skilled professionals to turn a sea of data into actionable intelligence that will provide the company with a competitive edge.

Chapters

The Society has more than 50 chapters in locations all over the world. Chapters provide grassroots networking opportunities for SCIP members and others interested in CI. SCIP also has several affiliate and partner organizations. You'll find information about SCIP chapters, affiliates, and partners in this area of the site.

Google returns relevant results because it responds to your query using an automated method that ranks relevant websites based on the link structure of the Internet itself.
Without a powerful search tool, finding a specific website can be as difficult as finding a book in a library that has no card catalogue and a completely random method of storing its books.
Google has revolutionized searching on the web with its patent-pending PageRankTM technology. PageRank leverages the structural nature of the web, which is defined by the way in which any web page can link to any other web page, instantly, directly, and without an intermediary.
