Synopsis of Involvement: The DC/SLA Chapter formed a new committee this year called the Student/Young Professionals Committee. We are only one of many DC/SLA committees. Our committee incorporated some pre-existing DC Chapter activities such as Career Day and student scholarships as well as developed an active social aspect through the Young Professionals Group to attract students, recent graduates, people new to the area, the young at heart, and non-members. We also encourage involvement in volunteer opportunities planned by other DC/SLA committees and/or available in the DC area. We try to plan monthly activities and promote ALL our programs on the DC/SLA’s events calendar, in the newsletter, on our Web page, and on the DC/SLA listserv and two college listservs. We also have the Chair of Membership working with us, attending many of the functions, and organizing some of the events as well. We have received inquiries about our new committee from as far away as Australia and have had positive feedback by many of the attendees.
