The Military Librarians Group (MLG) became a recognized unit of DC SLA in the early 1950’s.
Programs range from military history to current topics in information science.
Activities include tours, performances, lectures, book talks, SLA virtual seminars, luncheons, and dinners. While mainly aimed at information professionals working for or with the Department of Defense, MLG events are open to all chapter members. Participants also support the other programs within the chapter. In the past, MLG members have been speakers at Career Day and the group has co-sponsored events with other groups and committees, such as the Young Professionals. Some of the weekend tours have been popular with members of student SLA organizations. The group makes an effort to sponsor four to five events each year.
One person serves as the point of contact for the group and coordinates MLG activities with the DC/SLA Board. A committee of volunteers plans the events. New volunteers are welcome at any time throughout the year. Suggested program ideas are also appreciated.
The planning committee currently includes Pat Alderman, Wendy Hill, Sharon Lenius, Lily McGovern, Diane Schnurrpusch, and R. Lee Hadden.
We encourage you to with questions about the Military Librarians Group and its programs or with suggestions for future events.
