CALL TO ORDER
Sue Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:02 pm at BNA Headquarters.
AGENDA
A motion to approve the agenda for October 2, 2001 was moved by Kenlee Ray
and seconded by Mandy Baldridge. The motion passed.
MINUTES
The minutes from the September 4, 2001 meeting were amended and a motion to
approve the minutes was moved by Dave Shumaker and seconded by Mandy
Baldridge. The motion passed.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Sue Johnson reported that Diane Schnurrpusch sent flowers from the chapter
to the Army librarian at the Pentagon.
Estelle Alexander moved that the chapter reimburse Diane Schnurrpusch for
the cost of the flowers sent to the Army librarian. David Shumaker seconded
the motion and the motion passed.
A collection was taken for the Pentagon librarian at the first event. Diane
Schnurrpusch will give the money to the Pentagon librarian at an appropriate
time in the next month.
Sue sent an email to the Board members asking them to contact their new
members to serve as volunteers on one of our committees.
PRESIDENT ELECT
Anne Caputo reported that the first meeting went very well. Roberta Shaffer
was a lively speaker and the meeting had a good turnout.
October has two events: the Neighborhood Dinners, which will be taking place
on 10/17 and 10/18 in six different locations. Technology Day will take
place on 10/15 at John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
November’s program will feature Susan Fifer-Canby speaking. The event will
take place at National Geographic on Wednesday, November 7. The cost will
be about $22 and have a cash bar.
December’s event will be the Holiday Party at the Washington Arts Club.
Anna McGowan moved for Anne Caputo to explore the option and costs of
sending a printed invitation for the Holiday Party. Kenlee Ray seconded the
motion. The motion passed.
Anne proposed a change for the topic January’s program to disaster recovery.
April’s program will be an International program.
Barbara Folensbee-Moore reported that the credit card payments went well for
the first program. About one-third of attendees paid with this option.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Catherine Kitchell submitted a Cash Flow Report, updated Budget sheets and a
Balance Sheet to the Board.
DIRECTORS
Kenlee Ray reported that the Student Membership Award has been announced and
that we should encourage submissions from students.
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY
Estelle Alexander is asking for all Board members to send personal contact
information to her for Sue and Anne. This information will only be given to
Sue and Anne.
Estelle attended a meeting of the Joint Committee of the Maryland Library
Association. DC SLA can post all of our events on their site. All events
posted allow members to attend at the member price.
CHAPTER NOTES
The production of Chapter Notes is behind due to September 11. It should be
in member’s mailboxes soon.
October 5 is the deadline for the October issue.
The committee is looking for the most cost effective way to produce Chapter
Notes.
INTERNET COMMITTEE
Kristina Lively reported that she is having a brainstorming session this
Thursday.
AWARDS COMMITTEE
Sue reported that Joan Gervino is still looking for names from DC SLA to
submit for SLA Awards.
INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
Becky Milton was looking for input from DC SLA about starting a twinning
program. This would be a two-year commitment from either individuals or
chapters.
JOINT SPRING WORKSHOP
Laura Hjpere announced that the Joint Spring Workshop is taking place on
April 16, 2002 at the Library of Congress’s Mugford Room. The topic will be
the Hidden Internet.
MILITARY LIBRARIANS
Diane Schnurrpusch reported that the “Knowledge Management: Communities of
Practice” program has been rescheduled for October 24 from September 12.
The Military Librarians are also having the Newseum event on Saturday,
October 13.
ADJOURNMENT
Kenlee Ray moved to adjourn the meeting. Anna McGowan seconded the motion.
The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
