AWARDS
HOSPITALITY The Holiday Party is December 5th at the Arts Club of Washington. LLSDC has been invited and DCLA will be contacted about the event. The January event is on professional development with the title “Electronic Collections – Understanding their value to users. The speakers are Judy Luther from Informed Strategies and Denise Davis from NCLIS. A location is being sought for the event, which will be held from 3-6 pm. The proposed cost of the event is $50. There is a possible sponsor for the event, which means a minimal cost for the event to the chapter. Discussion took place about lowering the price. Nancy Minter moved that the price of the January event would be $35 for members provided that the net cost of the event is not more than $1000 to the chapter for the program. Catherine Kitchell seconded the motion and the motion passed. The board asked for more advanced notice of events, so the events can be advertised in Chapter Notes.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT Headquarters is asking for nominations for Association Officers. Sylvia James is chairing the committee. The Association has launched its new web site in mid-October. Strategic Planning Update – The report found that DC/SLA should have more of a presence in Northern Virginia. There was a meeting of the Northern Virginia Information Specialists early today with 30 people in attendance. All but two of the attendees are DC/SLA members. The group was currently not interested in officially affiliating with DC/SLA.
