AGENDA A motion to approve the agenda as amended for April 2, 2002 was moved by Erin Clougherty and seconded by Kenlee Ray. The motion passed. MINUTES A motion to approve the amended minutes from March 5 8, 2002 was moved by Estelle Alexander and seconded by Kenlee Ray. The motion passed. PRESIDENT'S REPORT Sue asked for all committee chairs to write a short summary of what their committee has done this year. Please email the summary to Estelle Alexander by the last week of April. Election Update No news as of yet. All ballots will be reviewed for the postmark date. Due to mail problems, one additional week will be given for the ballots to arrive. Sue reported for the Employment Committee. They are at the starting point and are currently looking for members who are unemployed or wish to mentor. PRESIDENT ELECT Anne Caputo reported that there were currently 18 people registered for the April event. A donation of $1000 from Dialog will used for the Annual Banquet. TREASURER'S REPORT Catherine Kitchell reported that she has been receiving income from Chapter Notes advertising. Catherine discussed moving the money from the Student Fund into the chapter's main account. Anne Caputo motioned to move all money from the Student Fund into the regular checking account and to advertise the Student Scholarship Award under the name of Catherine A Jones Scholarship Award. Estelle Alexander seconded the motion. The motion passed. DIRECTORS Anna McGowan reported that the chapter received $1500 from our participation in Technology Day with the Maryland Chapter. Anna also announced that Dialog is donating $1000 to our chapter. Kenlee Ray reported on the Community Project. The school has provided DC SLA with a wish list of books. Kenlee has been working with Susan Fifer Canby to secure a date for the fall Jazz Concert fundraiser at National Geographic Society. Kenlee has also applied for another grant from the World Bank. The committee is looking for ways to attract more corporate help. SECOND VICE PRESIDENT/CONSULTATION COMMITTEE Mandy Baldridge reported on the recommendations of the Consultation Committee.
2. Heighten awareness in our communities. Currently contacting DC and Virginia public libraries with information. 3. Request that the National Consultation Committee create a PowerPoint presentation that can be used for "road" presentations. Joan Gervino reported on the Conference Stipend Award. There were excellent applicants who applied. The committee hopes to announce the winner by April 15. ARCHIVES Judy Grosberg reported that archives are currently not as accessible as they could be. Materials from recent years have not been currently processed into the collection. YOUNG PROFESSIONALS Karen Huffman reported on the current events for the group, which include a dinner on April 18th at Buca di Beppo for International Special Librarians Day and the MS Team Walk on April 20th. CHAPTER NOTES Marie Kaddell reported that Friday is the deadline for May's Chapter Notes submissions. The committee would like to revise a virtual newsletter. The committee is also working to improve the quality check of the final newsletter. WEB SITE Kristina Lively reported on current Web Site Statistics. The numbers of hits has jumped dramatically. Kristina also noted that SLA headquarters is transferring ISPs, which will have the site down for 24-28 hours. JOINT SPRING WORKSHOP Laura Hjerpe reported that the Joint Spring Workshop currently has 75 registered to attend. Donna Kanin will be the Moderator for the event. MEMBERSHIP Alphonse Vinh reported that he is still waiting for an up-to-date list of members and new chapter members from headquarters. Discussion was held on inviting committee volunteers to a reception at the next board meeting. Kenlee Ray motioned for the May 7th Board Meeting to be held at the Army Navy Club with all current committee chairs invited. Mandy Baldridge seconded the motion. The motion passed. ADJOURNMENT Kenlee Ray moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:42 pm. Anne Caputo seconded the motion and the motion passed. |
