"Veteran" Librarians

Listen and learn about a time in the 1960’s when people with an MLS were drafted into military service and ended up in Vietnam.

Former “Spec 4s” Fran Buckley and Bill Sittig will recount living in those “interesting times” for the Veterans History Project.

Follow the insightful conversations and often funny stories of these two very successful librarians who met in Vietnam during turbulent days and have remained friends for nearly 40 years.  They assisted the US Army Special Services Library Program expansion to serve fire-bases and foxholes in Vietnam.  Experience with them monsoon rains with boxes and boxes of books piled on the tarmac, the First Tet Offensive and many other incidents.

After the interview process, Civilian Librarians who served in Vietnam and other hostile areas will be recognized. A display of library materials currently provided to troops and sailors through the US Army Community & Family Support Center will be available to peruse.
