360 Degrees of Information Literacy: Information Literacy around the World |
|
Information Literacy is defined as the ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information for the issue or problem at hand. The emergence of the Information Society makes information literacy a necessary skill for all students, workers who can contribute to economic prosperity, and responsible citizenry.
Speakers include Hannelore Rader, Dean of University Libraries at the University of Louisville (Kentucky); Jesus Lau, member of the SLA Board of Directors, chair of IFLA's Information Literacy section, and librarian at Universidad Veracruzana (Veracruz Campus); and Caroline Stern, professor of freshman composition, source-based writing, and technical and business communication at Ferris State University (Michigan). The International Relations Committee is working on ways that we might build on the evening's panel discussion. Please watch the Chapter's Web site for additional resources and program announcements. Our "drop-box" will be available for collecting library, information, and computer journals for donation to library schools adopted by the DC/SLA Chapter in Zimbabwe and Cuba. So, start TODAY by saving your reading material and bring it with you on April 22! Please join DC/SLA for this exciting event and learn how information literacy programs can improve your effectiveness as a special librarian. SPONSOR: VNS Group, Inc. COST & REGISTRATION: Payment can be either by check using the form below or by PayPal (see below for PayPal instructions). Make checks out to DC/SLA. Please send checks to Barbara Folensbee-Moore at the address above. When paying by check, please also send an e-mail registration to ensure a space.
