Librarian to Author:
A Long and Winding Road

DC/SLA members and guests and 2008 DTIC Conference attendees are invited to join the Military Librarians Group of DC/SLA for a presentation by Bradley Gernand, Manager of Library and Information Services at the Institute for Defense Analyses. Gernand will share his experiences researching, writing and publishing books on military history including A Virginia Village Goes to War: Falls Church During the Civil War and Quantico: semper progredi, always forward.

Mr. Germand is a native of Oklahoma. He earned both his B.A. and M.A. in journalism from the University of Oklahoma, and has also pursued graduate work in American Indian history. Gernand served as a Navy Reserve Officer, working for the fleet's information command at the Pentagon. He has served as an archivist in the National Archives and for ten years served as senior archivist at the Library of Congress. He now oversees library and information services for two government think tanks--the Institute for Defense Analyses, which serves the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the unified commands, and the Science and Technology Policy Institute, which serves the Executive Office of the President and more particularly, the President's science advisors.
