President
The Chapter President administers the Chapter through the Executive and Advisory Board and Committee members, and exercises overall leadership in the development of policies and programs to carry out the work of the Chapter. The President organizes and presides over Chapter meetings, and is liaison to the Association. The President's term is the middle year of a three-year commitment: the first year is as 1st Vice President/President-Elect, responsible for program planning, and the third as Immediate Past President. |

First Vice President/President-Elect is an elected officer of the Washington, DC/SLA chapter and a voting member of the Executive Board. It is a three-year commitment. The President-Elect serves one term as first Vice-President, one as President, and one as Past President. The major responsibility of the First Vice President is to arrange the programs for the year. |

The Second Vice President is responsible for overall maintenance and update of the Chapter Manual, provides administrative continuity for the Chapter, and assists the First Vice President/President-Elect in activities related to Committees and Groups and to publicity. The 2nd VP serves as an ex-official member of the Strategic Planning Committee and attends meetings of the Committee when invited by the chairperson. An authoritative copy of the Chapter Manual is held by the 2nd VP. Revision of the Manual takes place by instruction of the Board. The 2nd VP serves for one year. |

The office of Immediate Past President is the final year of a three year committment to the Chapter Offices of First Vice President, President, and Immediate Past President. The Immediate Past President is available for consultation concerning the management of Chapter business and carries out special projects and assignments as designated by the Chapter President or recommended by the Executive Board. |

The Recording Secretary's duties are to record and distribute minutes of the Chapter's Executive Board meetings and the annual business meeting of the Chapter. The minutes are a record of the proceedings and actions taken at each meeting but not a word-by-word transcript of the meeting. The minutes are currently distributed via e-mail to all members of the board and approved or amended by the board at the following meeting. An abridged version of the minutes is submitted for publication in the Chapter's newsletter. The Recording Secretary serves for two years. |

The Chapter Treasurer is responsible for maintaining all financial records and carrying out all financial transactions for the Chapter. The Treasurer makes deposits, pays bills, balances bank statements, prepares monthly reports for Board meetings, and prepares the Chapter's annual budget and the twice-yearly financial statements sent to SLA. He/she ensures that the Chapter financial records are audited every January by the Chapter Auditor. The Treasurer is also liaison to the Chapter group treasurers, and coordinates sending their financial statements to SLA. The Treasurer serves for three years. |

The Communications Secretary's duties include: Promoting major chapter events not organized by a specific committee or other interest group; Arranging for each major chapter event to be covered by a writer and photographer for Chapter Notes; Assisting in copy edits for Chapter Notes and the monthly chapter calendar; Maintaining a roster of the Executive Board and Committee Chairs, including on the Web site; Maintaining access to the electronic discussion lists for associations and groups with similar interests so that emails may be sent about relevant programs. The Communication Secretary serves for one year.
