The Dayton Daily News: Challenge and Opportunity

Moving, Preserving and Providing Access for One Hundred Years of Dayton History

Join Special Libraries Association for a presentation about the Dayton Daily News Archives! When the Dayton Daily News moved out of it 100-year-old building in downtown Dayton, it did not move its archive. A few years and some negotiations later, Wright State University Special Collections & Archives staff "rescued" the immense archive from the unheated building. Our speaker is Dawne Dewey, Head of Wright State University Libraries Special Collection and Archives.

Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Time: Meet at 5:30; program begins at 5:45
Place: Center for Performance Excellence at the Kettering Center

140 East Monument Ave.
Dayton, OH 45402
Directions to the Kettering Center

Please R.S.V.P. to Mary Lou Baker Jones at marylou.jones[at]wright.edu by Monday, April 20 and please indicate whether you plan to attend dinner.

Parking: Enter the parking lot immediately after passing the Kettering Center Building on Monument Street (one-way west-bound). Park and go inside the building to the front desk for a temporary parking permit. If there is an attendant in the lot, tell him/her that you are at the Kettering Center for a meeting so that you do not get charged for parking for a Dayton Dragons Baseball game.

Dinner: Join us for dinner after the presentation at Pacchia (410 E. Fifth Street, 45402) in Dayton's historic Oregon District.  We'll have our own dining room. Check out the menu!

Directions to Pacchia from the Kettering Center: Exit the parking lot onto St. Clair Street and turn right. In about 4 blocks, turn left on Fifth Street. After you pass under a brightly painted railroad bridge, look for Pacchia on your right and a parking lot at Fifth and Pine on your left. Pacchia has free evening parking privileges in that lot.

The Dayton Dragons' stadium is two blocks from the Kettering Center and the team has a 7:00 game that night.   For ticket information, see their web site at http://www.daytondragons.com/
