Name Change Voting Results
The results are finally in for the proposed name change to the Association for Strategic Knowledge Professionals. Fifty percent of those members eligible to vote participated in the referendum, with 2071 voting yes and 3225 voting no. For more details, please visit the SLA Blog. |

SLA Adds New Dues Tier for Info Pros Making Less than $18K
With many facing lay offs and cutbacks SLA members are able to rely on their professional association to provide assistance in tough times Alexandria, Virginia, USA, 12 November 2008— Special Libraries Association (SLA), the premier global association for information professionals and special librarians, has added a third tier of membership dues for the full member class of membership. Dues for members with incomes of less than US$18,000 annually are now reduced to US$35 annually. Association members who fall into this category, including those who are unemployed, will have full access to all of SLA's members-only services, including professional development, the SLA Career Center and networking opportunities. This initiative is an immediate response to the global economic crisis and will allow more members from around the globe to participate in the full range of SLA's benefits. This dues structure will make membership in SLA affordable for members working in any economy, as well as those who are students, unemployed, part-time workers or retired. Read more |

Special Libraries Association Begins Planning for 2009 Centennial President Appoints Commission to Oversee 100-year Anniversary, Invites SLA Members to Participate in Creating Framework for Year-long Celebration Alexandria, Virginia, USA, 11 April 2007— 2009 marks the 100-year anniversary of the founding of the Special Libraries Association by John Cotton Dana in 1909 as a professional association dedicated to serving the needs and interests of professionals who handle specialized information and research services. Today SLA announces the creation of the SLA Centennial Commission and asks its 11,500 members to send ideas and thoughts on how to best celebrate its 100 year anniversary to the Commission via the email address 100@sla.org. "The Centennial is a pivotal milestone for our Association and it is vital that we engage SLA members in the planning of the celebration in 2009. We encourage members to send their beneficial suggestions via email to 100@sla.org from across the globe so we may create a year-long event that makes all SLA members proud to be a part of this community," said SLA President Rebecca B. Vargha. "I am confident that the talented members appointed to the commission will work with the Association staff and SLA Units to formulate a wonderful celebration and annual conference that commemorates this important anniversary while recognizing our innovative past and inspiring a state-of-the-art future for the profession."The SLA Centennial Commission

Apply for the Vormelker-Thomas Student Award The award, co-sponsored by the News Division and ProQuest, is a $1,500 stipend to assist students attending their first Special Libraries Association Annual Conference. The 2006 Annual Conference will be June 11-14, 2006 in Baltimore, Maryland. Selection Criteria:
Applications must be e-mailed no later than Friday, March 10, 2006. E-mail applications to: Amy Disch The winner will receive a check prior to the conference in June. The winning essay will appear in an issue of News Library News. The News Division reserves the right not to award the stipend if there are no suitable applicants. unveiled a statewide calendar for library-related continuing education.
Library staff are encouraged to access the site at

listings is free of charge.
Events can be browsed by location, type of workshop, or date. Eventually, hot topic events will be browsable under their own headings. All non-profit, library-related organizations in Ohio are eligible to participate and have their events listed on CEOhio.org. Scores of patrons come and go, with most of the activity book-related. In the next hour there are nearly 50 searches in the catalog, with an equal number of items renewed.
