Welcome/Networking - 5:30 p.m. Registration Deadline: Friday, November 20 Thursday, November 5, 2009 - 6:00 p.m. Ruth Wolfish, IEEE Client Services Manager and SLA Chapter Cabinet Chair-Elect, will be providing us with details on SLA's Align in '09 Project in cooperation with Kelvin Smith Library. Since the announcement of the proposed name for SLA - ASKPro - there has been much discussion on listservs, social networking sites, and other online forums. It is the perfect opportunity for Ruth to share her thoughts on and understanding of the Alignment Project with us. In addition, we are very pleased to have Brian Gray, Head of Reference and the Engineering, Math & Statistics Librarian at the Kelvin Smith Library, to give an overview of the Library's collaboration with the Great Lakes Energy Institute and explain what the Library is doing to provide resources and services to those conducting energy research.
Networking and dinner - 6:00 p.m. Registration Deadline: Monday, November 2 Tuesday, October 27, 2009 - 6:00 p.m. GeoTagging digital photography for learning, research, and just plain fun! GeoTagging involves placing location information on photos. The ability to geotag photos has become increasingly easier, using free or inexpensive tools. Mace W. Mentch, Ph.D. and Assessment Specialist in Instructional Technology and Academic Computing for Case Western Reserve University, will introduce geotagging photographs for teaching, learning, research, and fun. Demonstration of devices that can be carried in your pocket, GiSTEQ Phototrackr and Trails, and their integration with Google Maps, Google Earth, and Flickr will be provided. Examples of using the technology in a research application and for display of walking routes and points of interest will be included. This event is sponsored by the Northern Ohio Chapter of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, and co-sponsored by SLA Cleveland Chapter.

From his Wharton MBA days to his work at IBM, Standard & Poors, Citicorp, OneSource, and others, Frank has always had a keen eye on parallels between corporations and libraries. As Vice President of OCLC Planning and Marketing, he connected library strategies with current and future needs and met with libraries from around the world.

(Garn) Anderson III, Director, Information & Intelligence (I²) at Energizer / Schick-Wilkinson Sword, shares his experience with Measurement of Effectiveness (MOE) for eight critical areas in a world-class information, intelligence and research program. He will provide insights on the value of documenting economic and non-economic ROE for Information & Intelligence programs, and show examples of how to determine what an Information & Intelligence initiative is worth.

(Mustard Seed Market Cafe, Montrose) If you attended the SLA conference in Baltimore, ALA in New Orleans, or any other conference/seminar recently, please come and share your experience. You don't need to prepare anything major, just share what you heard, what you learned, notes from a good session, photos, updates from vendors.... This is also a good time to share any ideas or suggestions you might have regarding any future program ideas, meeting venues, etc. Hope to see you there!
