As this was not an official meeting, it was not formally called to order.
Introductions were done, as some were new members.
Records/Paperwork Requirements
Leslie Knapp, new Treasurer, reminded everyone that forms are needed for authorized spending. She will fill out the forms, so long as the requestor can provide the invoice or receipt. Please phone or email her with any questions. In response to a question, SLA still has tax exempt status.
Archives, Pauline Leeds: please send Pauline anything that is an official report. Meeting minutes, copies of financial activities, committee reports, flyers, evaluations, list of attendees, etc. Give her anything you think she'll need and she'll sort it out.
Announcements
Liz Bibby reminded all about the Tia's on the Waterfront social gathering. No pre-registration is involved, just bring money. Liz has not found any evaluations from attendees of past functions and would appreciate seeing any that anyone might have.
There was general discussion about the need for new members and suggestions for the Program Committee for the coming year. Liz explained that she wanted to set up a time-line for the year before committing to specific programs. Discussion included the balancing act in planning programs, getting vendor support, and making use of the membership disbursement. Suggestions included: partnering with NENON, with NEASIS, videoconferencing to be hosted by Sun.
It was suggested that the Chapter make a donation, on behalf of Betty Edwards, to the school her daughter attends, in memory of her late husband. Noting ample precedent for such donations, Leslie suggested $100. Liz made the motion, was seconded by Margaret Howe-Soper, approved unanimously.
Teresa Frydryk suggested that the Chapter donate to the James Mattarazzo fund at Simmons. Leslie suggested an amount around $500, noting that the Chapter could afford it. The idea was tabled until the next meeting, which would be an official board meeting.
Scheduling of Executive Board Meetings was broached; the group is geographically diverse, and finding free space to meet in is challenging. Suggestions included: Boston College, the Boston Public Library, Newton Public Library, having dinner meetings in restaurants, or asking vendors with office space for access after hours. The executive board meeting is scheduled for early October.
A break-out with past/present chairs ensued.
