Description

The Medical Information Knowledge Management Specialist consolidates and provisions business critical medical and scientific information within the organization by leveraging specialized information systems resulting in cost savings, legal and regulatory compliance, improved executive decision making, productivity, customer satisfaction and sustained growth.

Responsibilities

Business Analysis and Research

•Conducts ongoing business analysis of medical and scientific information resources in the company to reduce duplications and streamline provisioning.
•Establishes cost savings and ROI thru negotiations with vendors for subscriptions, contracts, inventories.
•Gathers information requirements and best practices for information services using focus groups, user groups, interviews and web surveys.
•Ensures global literature database indexing, taxonomies, meta data, and troubleshooting in partnership with Merck KGaA and affiliates.

Risk and Project Management

•Assures information availability, integrity, security, and risk management thru policies, standards, and guidelines for information services.
•Establishes enterprise copyright, access control, financial controls, and periodic audits on information platforms.
•Maintains efficient operation of KM Center by establishing schedules, calendars, tracking, profiles.

Intelligence and Alerts

•Leads competitive intelligence including extracting, packaging and delivering key medical and scientific business data from systems to optimize decision making.
•Delivers specialized database research including text mining, media analytics, RSS alerts, document delivery and citation services using aggregators.
•Monitors trends in customer demands for medical, scientific product information using CRM databases and working closely with customer service functions, marketing and communications.

Learning and Collaboration

•Builds and maintains new media channels for exchange of medical and scientific information.
Utilizes state of the art Health 2.0 platforms including intranet sites, user groups and communities, portals, wikis, podcasts, blogs, web conferencing, e-learning, linking, video and social networking.
Organizes hands on training, certification and beta testing for new technologies in KM Center working with L&OD.
Establishes the leadership of EMD Serono Information function in industry thru conference presentations, workshops, user communities, university programs and continued education.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/LANGUAGES

•Bachelors or Masters degree with specific training in information science, information systems, library science or related area. Training in biosciences preferred as well as understanding of R&D, Commercial and Technology business strategy.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Fluent with current technologies including web, database, new media, e-learning, reporting, document and search by major vendors including:
Oracle, Adobe, Apple, Cognos, IBM Lotus Quickr, Zoomerang, Webex, Reference Manager, Basecamp, Quickbase, Pi2, Thomson, Ovid.
5-10 years of experience in biotechnology and understanding of legal and regulatory requirements such as 21 CFR Part 11, validation, copyright.
