Summary: Reporting to the Manager of Research Services within the Investment Information Services (IIS) organization, the Lead Information Manager’s (LIM) main responsibility is to provide dedicated research support to the Specialized and/or Diversified investment teams within FMR Co. In this role, the LIM is required to fully understand the unique research needs, identify trends, seek new value-add information sources, and provide proactive research and information solutions tailored to their assigned coverage.

As an active member of the Specialized and/or Diversified investment teams, the LIM must be a creative thinker and demonstrate the ability to handle complex research projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Research projects may be loosely defined and require the LIM to filter, synthesize, and conceptualize research projects to deliver creative solutions. The research results delivered to investment professionals may impact the performance of funds therefore; it is imperative that all research is accurate and delivered in a timely manner. Most importantly, the LIM acts as the single point of contact for all incoming sector/industry team research requests by performing “triage”, determining appropriate resources needed to best fulfill each request; providing day-to-day leadership of research projects, workload management oversight, effective communication and follow-up re: project status/deliverables, and proactively promoting and sharing information resources/products to ensure that all team members are leveraging and fully utilizing the independent and objective sources vetted by the LIM.

Finally, the LIM acts as a conduit to the broader IIS organization by engaging the specialized talent and expertise of the Content Management, Market Data and Web Teams to ensure that unique independent and objective research content is leveraged, highly visible and valued by IPs in internally developed web applications/portals.

Major Responsibilities

Research:
• Proactively provides comprehensive, timely, and accurate research solutions in response to broad based research projects
• Initiates and creates custom research products (e.g., Company Profiles, Country Profiles, etc.) to provide tangible, value-added solutions to the investment teams
• Synthesizes information from diverse and sometimes conflicting sources
• Searches for untested assumptions
• Identifies change agents and economic drivers affecting sector / industry
• Derives implications from research data to present results in a clear and actionable format for investment professionals
• Develops and maintains a comprehensive knowledge of assigned sector(s) to support the research process
• Builds relationships with external vendors/industry experts/independent research providers and leads content analysis of external industry research sources/data
• Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and trends in research products and evaluates data sources for integrity and value to FMR Co.
• Ensures knowledge sharing by partnering with the Content Management and Web teams to identify sector/industry specific content and initiates recommendations for enhancing internal applications/tools (i.e. New Coverage Guides, Sector / Industry Portal Pages etc.)
• Actively leads new investment professionals orientation to IIS and manages research projects for new hire acclimation with other IIS team members

Research Support Team Triage:
• Cultivates strong relationships with MDRs and Investment Professionals within assigned coverage to better understand evolving research needs
• Serves as primary contact for all research requests in assigned sectors
• Performs triage for all research requests by determining appropriate skill sets and resources to best fulfill each request – within assigned coverage and across other sector Leads
• Provides research project oversight, ensures accuracy of deliverables, identifies best practices, mentors and coaches junior staff including formulating strategies for best approach to research problems
• Manages training program for new information consultants within IIS
• Provides comprehensive work performance feedback for junior staff
• Partners with Director to outline and lead team goals and initiatives

Skills, Experience, and Education:
• MLS Required
• >7 years advanced business research experience (investment/financial services is highly desired)
• Ability to lead key team/cross-sector projects and works well independently
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated with proven ability to effectively work with a diverse personalities in a dynamic and demanding environment
• Excellent coaching and mentoring skills
• Superior oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of staff and management
• Superior skill and ability in multi-tasking and appropriate prioritization
• Ability to adjust rapidly to changing work environment
• Ability to work collaboratively with other internal business groups
• Highly proficient with MS Excel
• Highly proficient in using a broad spectrum of specialized electronic and data sources including Lexis/Nexis, Factiva, Dialog, Securities Data Company, Datastream, Factset Data Systems, Haver Analytics, Bloomberg and others
