Duties And Responsibilities Provides leadership, planning, and coordination for the development and management of the Monroe C. Gutman Library collections and electronic resources to support the mission of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Additionally assumes a leadership role in articulating the direction and scope of collections, formulating collection policies, managing the collections budget, and evaluating the use of library resources. Required Education, Experience and Skills Required: ALA-accredited degree in library/information science Knowledge of and involvement in emerging digital information environments. Ability to work effectively and collegially with all levels of library staff, students, faculty, as well as external associates. Strong analytical and decision making skills. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Three or more years of successful and increasingly responsible professional experience in collection management and development in an academic library setting to include knowledge of acquisitions, cataloging, and technical services processes. Previous library budget participation or administration Must be able to work in a team setting, handle multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment and operate effectively in a diverse academic community. Demonstrated professional growth and service in a university and library environment. Understanding of the scholarly research environment Preferred: Second Master's degree or Doctorate in a relevant subject area. Substantial knowledge of and experience with selection and assessment of electronic resources. Conversant with current practices and trends in digital library resources. Knowledge of trends in scholarly communication, publishing and research
Additional Web Position Listing Manages the collection development of resources in all formats and ensures a premier collection that supports the teaching, research, and learning needs of the immediate and broader education community of scholars and educators; Evaluates and analyzes collections and electronic resources on a continuing basis to ensure that the intellectual content supports the teaching and research of HGSE/Harvard and the broader education community of scholars and educators; Evaluates and manages gifts and has responsibility for donor relations; Develops and administers comprehensive, flexible, and forward-thinking plans for the growth and management of the collections, with particular attention to electronic resources; Selects print, media, and electronic resources with knowledge of and communication with appropriate sources in the field of education, and leads the Library in the acquisition and integration of new media with traditional collection development; Participates in Gutman Library and University-wide library planning and policy-making, and serves as a member on University library committees, task forces, and project teams, as appropriate, in a shared decision-making environment; Communicates and collaborates with a broad constituency with respect to the current state and future of the education collections and resources at the Harvard Graduate School of Education; Collaborates with Special Collections and Access Services, and participates in the Research and Instruction Services Department activities and services.
