MEETING MINUTES

The Alabama Chapter Spring meeting was held April 28, 2000, at the Kellogg Executive Conference Center on the Tuskegee University campus. Frances Davis, Engineering Librarian, was our host fot the day. Our program topic for this meeting was "MENTORING: WHAT IS IT and DO I NEED IT?"

After a continental breakfast, a short time of introductions, and a door prize drawing, our program began with a short video on mentoring produced by the Business & Finance Division of SLA. Our two speakers, Dr. Richard Lester from Air University, and Brian McGreevy from Atlanta, GA, discussed mentoring from different perspectives -- the mentor and the mentee (a.k.a. mentoree, or protege). A question and answer period followed the presentations.

A short Business Meeting took place during lunch. We had a report from the Government Relations Committee, more door prize drawings and the election of our 2000-2001 Chapter officers. The new officers are:

President-elect: Ginny Allen (Southern Progress, Birmingham)
Secretary: Sue Goodman (Air University Library, Maxwell AFB)
Treasurer: Ellen Griffin (Lister Hill Library, Birmingham)
Director: James Fogler (Air Univeristy, Gunther Annex)

For those who were able to stay, Frances had graciously arranged a tour of some of the historical sites on campus. These sites included Booker T. Washington's monument, grave and house (known as "The Oaks"), the University Chapel with its intricately designed "singing windows", the Engineering School Library (where Frances works), and the George Washington Carver Museum where we also saw a movie on the life and times of Booker T. Washington (founder of Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University).

Thus concluded a very full and interesting meeting.
