Meeting Minutes


Summer 2007:

The Summer Business Meeting was held on July 27, 2007 at the Birmingham Museum of Art. The meeting was called to order at 10:30am.


Winter 2007:

The Winter Business Meeting was held February 5, 2007 at the Birmingham Museum of Art. President-Elect, Mangala Krishnamurthy, called the meeting to order at 10:00am.


Winter 2004:
The Winter Business Meeting was held on February 5, 2004 at the Air University Library, Maxwell AFB, Alabama. President-Elect Ron Dial called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.


Spring 2004:

The May 2004 Meeting of the Alabama Chapter, Special Libraries Association was held at the Rogers Library, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.


FALL 2003:
Chapter members and friends met at Air University Library on Maxwell AFB, Alabama for the continuing education meeting called "Special Library Topology: The New Landscape for Changing Professionals." Ron Dial, the program chair, welcomed the participants and opened the meeting. Dr. Shirley Laseter, AU Library Director, reiterated a welcome and briefly talked about Air Force Libraries. The program then began.

The program was an all day seminar with five components: Change Management (Dr. William Sauser); PKI (Cedric Davis); Current Awareness/Getting the Word Out (Martha Knott); Mapping Information Flows (Allison Evatt); and Changemasters (Stephanie Rollins). Gifts for the speakers were provided courtesy of Southern Progress and Virginia Allen.

There were 31 registered participants for the seminar. Another 8 U.S. Air Force officers sat in on the keynote address. We enjoyed a catered lunch and a tour of Maxwell Air Force Base. The program adjourned at 4pm and 10 chapter members later re-assembled at The Legends in Prattville for Dinner. SPRING 2003: Our Spring Business Meeting was held May, 9 2003 at the Nonna Rose, Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Past President Ginny Allen called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m.


FALL 2000:
Our Fall meeting was held October 27, 2000 at the EBSCO Headquarters building in Birmingham, Alabama. The topic was "Beyond the Book -- Exploring the Digital Horizon."

Heidi Leachman from NetLibrary in Boulder, Colorado gave a presentation and demonstration of NetLibrary -- the "world's premiere provider of digital content for libraries" -- then Lori Martin, chapter member and librarian at Bradley Arant Rose & White, described challenges her law library faced in expanding their facility and services and challenges they'll soon face as they move into a smaller facility. Lori also discussed some of the economic myths of electronic information.

We enjoyed a catered lunch and drew for door prizes. EBSCO provided roomy canvas bags for all attendees.


SPRING 2000:
Our Spring meeting was held April 28, 2000 at the Kellogg Executive Center on the campus of Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, AL. Our program topic was "MENTORING: What Is It and Do I Need It?" Dr. Richard Lester from Air University, and Brian McGreevy from Atlanta, GA, discussed mentoring from different perspectives -- the mentor and the mentoree.


WINTER 2000:
The Winter Meeting was held February 10, 2000 at Southern Progress Corporation, Birmingham, AL. Donna Scheeder, 1999-2000 SLA President-elect, spoke on "Knowledge Management from Our Perspective: Its Politics and Leadership."

The following day Donna was given a tour of the State Law Library and the State Capitol by Tim Lewis, the Alabama State Law Librarian.


FALL 1999:
The Fall 1999 meeting was held October 14th on the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa. The program was an SLA interactive satellite presentation on "Effective Negotiating Skills for Licensing Content."
