- Information management concept and principles, development, applications in
Public and Private organizational life in the Arabian Gulf region.
- Knowledge management: concepts and principles, development, and its
applications in in Public and Private organizations in the Arabian Gulf region
- The difference between information management and knowledge management.
2. 2. Life Circle:
- creation: strategies for creating new knowledge, recreation of knowledge,
strategies and issues
- organization: indexing, metadata, data and text mining, classification
systems, infomaps, knowledge mapping.
- Services: all types of information and knowledge management services that are
provided in both government and private organizations.
3. Applications:
- Archives and records: organization, management, electronic archiving, issues
of imaging and digitization, value and applications in organizational life,
storage, reservation.
- Content management: analysis and organization, system applications, search
engines and retrieval, Technological applications
4. Technologies:
- Design and management of information systems; database, text management and
workflow applications, intranets and portals.
- Information architecture: machine-machine interface, multimedia, graphics,
text management, Web languages, navigation features, Web and portal design.
- Digital libraries: digitizing materials, organization through indexing and
databases, applications on portals, services and use.
5. Related issues:
- Knowledge sharing: organizational infrastructure, factors contributing to
sharing, barriers, strategies, possibilities and prospects in the corporate
organizations in the
Arabian Gulf.
- Health care and medical knowledge within the Gulf Society.
- Role of LIS professionals: IM & KM areas for LIS professionals, developing
competencies, liaising with corporate sector.
Guidelines for Submission of Proposals:
1. Proposals must be related to the conference theme or sub-themes;
2. Proposals must include the following elements:
- Title of paper;
- Name and position or title of presenter;
- Employer or affiliation of presenter;
- SLA-AGC membership status of presenter;
- Email, telephone number, fax number, mailing address;
- Abstract (250-300 words) – English and Arabic abstracts are required for
Arabic papers;
- Outline of topics/areas/issues to be covered;
3. Proposals must reach the Chair of the Conference Academic Committee Dr.
Rashed S. AlZahrani by Monday, September 25th, 2006 at the following address:
