GLBTIC will be cosponsoring this event with the Competitive Intelligence Division, the Military Libraries Division, and the Information Futurist Caucus; so this will be an excellent networking opportunity for everyone individually and a chance for GLBTIC to increase its visibility in SLA.
This is a ticketed event (event # 585) and tickets cost $5, payable online or when you register for the conference.
Col. William H. Pietsch, Jr., one of the first agents in the OSS (Office of Strategic Services [the precursor to the CIA]) is tentatively booked as our speaker for this event.
GLBTIC Business Meeting
Tuesday June 16, 1:30pm-3pm
The business meeting will include planning and election of co-convener(s) for SLA 2010 in New Orleans. Following the business portion of the meeting, Charles Francis will speak on the collection and historical significance of the papers of the gay rights pioneer Franklin Edward Kameny, Ph.D. The Kameny Archive includes thousands of pages of letters, government correspondence, testimony, photographs, picket signs and other memorabilia. The Kameny Papers trace the arc of the gay civil equality movement in the U.S. through Kameny's life and activism from the 1950's to the present and are now a part of the Manuscript Collection of the Library of Congress. Information about the collection is available at http://www.kamenypapers.org/.
As the driving force behind the LoC’s acquisition of the collection Mr. Francis was awarded one of GLAA's Distinguished Service Awards for 2007. Mr. Francis has also been featured in Time Magazine as a “New Face of Gay Power.”
