GLIC now GLBTIC - SLA 2006 and beyond
SLA 2006 brought a great
turnout of librarians to our annual meeting and we were
quite fortunate to have Dale Prince speak to us on "Public
Displays: Web 2.0 and the Information Commons.". He was
witty and engaging and spoke to a packed room of about 40
people. If you haven't already checked out his blog, The
anti-adventures of a gay mail librarian it's at:
www.daleprince.com. Once again, thanks to Dale and for
accepting our golden tiara as a memento.
Cy and Julie volunteered to
continue to be Co-conveners for the 2006-2007 year. Concern
had been expressed about the difficulties navigating the SLA
hierarchy for new conveners, and to that end we solicited
interest in being "mentored" into the role. During the
meeting we also came to the decision to formally change the
name from the Gay and Lesbian Issues Caucus to the Gay,
Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Issues Caucus, to be
more reflective or our members.
During the meeting interest
was voiced in honoring our history of 10+ years. We hope to
write an article for Information Outlook commemorating this.
We are also planning to have a speaker for next year and are
in the process of getting co-sponsorship from a Division.
