The St. Catherine's Special Library Association Student Group was founded in 2000 to promote an interest in special libraries, encourage student participation in the Special Libraries Association, provide organizational and leadership opportunities, and to enhance the students experience in the MLIS program. These goals are met through the creation of programs and events that take place throughout the year including library tours, networking, guest lecturers, and professional development opportunities. Each year, the student group also sponsors a scholarship competition to send one student to the annual SLA conference.
The student group is part of the Minnesota Chapter of the Special Libraries Association and sits on the board. Students are encouraged to participate in the MN Chapter, as well as SLA as a whole. There are many leadership opportunities that students can take advantage of both in the student group and with the Minnesota Chapter. One of the ways students can get involved is to serve as an officer in the student group or on the board of the Minnesota chapter. If you would like more information on either of these opportunities, email us at Stkatesla@gmail.com.
